Campaign Manager & West Wing Intern: Kim Garza Turner

Kim Garza Turner was born and raised in Beaumont, Texas.

At a young age, Kim’s father encouraged her love for art and introduced her to the art of Southeast, Texas folk artist, Felix “Fox” Harris. In 2001, Kim moved to Denton, Texas to attend the University of North Texas as an Art History Major. Kim was in art class on the UNT campus on the morning of September 11, 2001.  The events of September 11th combined with taking her first political science class had such a profound impact on Kim that she changed her major to Political Science and decided to pursue a career in politics.

During her time at the University of North Texas she interned on Capitol Hill in 2004 for Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. A semester internship turned into a year, when she was chosen as the sole intern in the West Wing of the White House during President George W. Bush’s 2004 re-election.

After completing her West Wing internship, Kim returned to UNT in 2005 to complete her B.A. in Political Science. Kim is currently the Campaign Manager and Fundraiser to Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. and has served in that capacity since August of 2005.

In addition, Kim has worked as a political consultant and fundraiser – managing and advising various federal, state, and local campaigns.

Kim is active in her community and church and prior to COVID-19, Kim served at her church as a children’s Sunday school teacher. Kim just completed her tenth year with the Junior League of Dallas, where her volunteer focus has been with the Crimes Against Children and Women Against Violence Conferences. In addition, Kim served the maximum six years as one of the youngest Board of Trustees for the Dallas Historical Society.

Kim is an avid runner and just started training for her fifth marathon. Her love for art continues as she collects and invests in American Folk Art.

Kim, and her husband, Chance, recently celebrated their 11th wedding anniversary and they are the proud parents of two boys, Tillman (7) and Tapley (3). Together they reside in Dallas, although they try to spend as much time as possible at their ranch in East Texas.
